Maine (7,737) Maine is located at the northeast corner of the U.S., the northernmost state in New England. Summer tourists enjoy relatively cool temperatures but the winters are cold enough to challenge the hardiest residents. Maine is known for its forests and its rocky Atlantic coast, and its residents refer to Maine as "down east."
